The following three milestone elements are used for encoding (part of) the physical structure of documents:

* <code>lb</code> (line beginning) marks the beginning of a new (typographic) line in some edition or version of a text.

* <code>pb</code> (page beginning) marks the beginning of a new page in a paginated document.

* <code>space</code> indicates the location of a significant space in the text. This is used for vertical space only, without specification of the amount.

The following elements are used for encoding editorial interventions:

* <code>corr</code> indicates corrected text

* <code>sic</code> indicates incorrect text.

Note that in the ePistolarium the <corr> and <sic> elements are used in their own right; they are not used in combination with a <choice> element; see [[Transcription#Editorial interventions]].
